Those “Clean” Signages

In recent years, the minimalist style has gradually become popular, and “deleting, discarding, and sorting” has become a new philosophy of life. Its core is actually to discard the complicated and redundant, and keep the precious and important. This is similar to the concept of “Less is more” in the field of design.

Usually, designers will adopt a simple approach to convey the minimalist and optimized core spirit of the brand. Such cases can also be frequently seen in signages.

Yayoi Kusama developed her own style quite early in her creative career. She skillfully combines highly saturated backgrounds with dot patterns, making her works highly recognizable. She loves polka dots and all intense and rich colors. However, in her art gallery, a lot of white is used, along with simple interior signs, creating a refreshing and clean visual effect.

Meanwhile, the simple indoor wayfinding signs correspond to the painter’s effective use of polka dots and bright colors in his works. The dynamic and the static elements together highlight the exhibits while also providing visual breathing space for visitors. Just like the carbonated water between wine tastings, it awakens the senses and enables a deeper appreciation of the beauty of art.

Given the rich historical culture and complex architecture of the Sola City, 6D Company adopted a minimalist design. Utilizing the water element of the Shinoda River, they created a water-blue ink painting and applied this element to the wayfinding signs, creating a design sensation that is as transparent as water.

In terms of font design, the Japanese fonts all use thin fonts, while the English fonts use serif fonts. What’s particularly unique is that the curved part of the English logo gradually becomes thinner, making the separated parts resemble water droplets, achieving a unity with the ink wash painting, and visually appearing unique.

The most remarkable feature of the wayfinding signs is that the map is made of transparent glass material. The map is presented in pure white, yet the key points are clearly visible, achieving a visual design sense.
